MG VOWGAS LIMITED, a leading indigenous engineering company, has successfully performed solution-annealing heat treatment on the mixing chambers of the Geregu Power Plant’s turbines.
The Geregu Power Plant’s turbines, critical for electricity generation, feature mixing chambers welded with Inconel 617, a high-temperature resistant alloy. MG VOWGAS’s expert team executed the complex heat treatment process:
– Heated to 1170°C, soaked for 1 hour
– Rapidly cooled to 600°C, then slowly cooled to 100°C
– 48-hour operation, completed by a dedicated team
Turbines are vital for electricity generation, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy via a generator. The solution-annealing process enhances the mixing chambers’ durability and efficiency.
This project saves foreign exchange by performing the operation locally
– Reduces project timelines
– Creates employment opportunities for Nigerian engineers and technicians
– Boosts Nigeria’s fabrication sector
Engr. John Emeka Aniekwe, GM Quality, expressed gratitude to the Group Managing Director, Mr. Godwin Izomor, for his visionary leadership and support for Nigerian engineers.
